Minor «Radiation safety and human ecology»

Becquerel's discovery showed that background radiation is constantly present in the environment. Man-made artificial radiation sources increase the background level, creating a certain additional load. Recently, people have developed a fear of radiation, so knowledge and understanding is the best countering fear. Relying only on knowledge in radiation safety issues, it is possible to resist inaccurate information. This module makes it possible to understand the edge where radiation really becomes life-threatening.

Aim

Formed key competencies

Learning outcomes

The purpose of the module is to form in students the basic concepts of the mechanism of interaction between ionizing radiation and living organisms, as well as the principles and norms of radioecological regulation.

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge in the issues of regulation of exposure of personnel and population, as well as problems and prospects of radiation safety.

  • Applies the principles of energy saving "green" technologies.

  • Describes the manifestation of physical laws in biological systems.

1. Describe the basic concepts of radioactivity, interaction of radiation with matter;

2. To interpret the problems and directions of development of energy-saving "green" technologies in the world and in Kazakhstan at the present time and in the future;

3. To interpret physical laws to explain the processes taking place in the human body;

4. To carry out calculations to determine the exposure, absorbed, effective and expected radiation doses;

5. To analyze the energy balances of industrial enterprises using energy-saving "green" technologies;

6. To evaluate the primary effects of the impact of physical factors on the human body;

7. Redict the possible radiation situation and its assessment;

8. Use methods of calculating energy-saving "green" technologies;

9. Uescribe the principles of operation of medical equipment.

Minor Courses

Description

1.

Rationing and sources of radiation for personnel and population

The course introduces the main sections of the use of the basics of rationing, identification of radiation sources for personnel and the population to ensure safe life. As a result, the student will be able to carry out calculations to determine the exposure, absorbed, effective and expected radiation doses.

2.

Energy saving «green» technologies

The course introduces the main directions in the development of "green" technologies, both in the world and in the Republic of Kazakhstan. As a result, the student will be able to carry out calculations and analyze the energy balances of industrial enterprises using energy-saving "green" technologies, as well as develop measures for the use of "green" technologies in various industries.

3.

Physics in Medicine

The course introduces the main features of the manifestation of physical laws in biological systems, as well as an understanding of the structure and operation of medical equipment. As a result, the student will learn to evaluate the primary effects of the impact of physical factors on the human body.
