Shakarim University Enters THE Impact Rankings 2025 for the First Time

In 2025, Shakarim University has made its debut in the prestigious global THE Impact Rankings, published annually by Times Higher Education, which assesses universities’ contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Unlike traditional academic rankings, THE Impact Rankings evaluates the real-world impact of universities on society, the environment, and global challenges—from eradicating poverty and hunger to building sustainable cities and preserving ecosystems.

In its first participation, Shakarim University is represented across 13 out of 17 SDGs, reflecting its systematic integration of sustainability principles into education, research, and governance.

- SDG 2 – Zero Hunger: 601–800

- SDG 5 – Gender Equality: 801–1000

- SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: 801–1000

- SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy: 801–1000

- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: 801–1000

- SDG 13 – Climate Action: 801–1000

- SDG 15 – Life on Land: 801+

- SDGs 1, 4, 8, 10, 16 – 1001+

- SDGs 9, 12, 14, and 17 – not yet represented

THE Impact Rankings serve as a global benchmark for how well universities act as agents of positive change, beyond teaching and research.

Shakarim University’s inclusion is a recognition of its efforts to promote inclusive education, support regional development, champion environmental initiatives, empower vulnerable communities, and modernize infrastructure based on sustainability principles.

This achievement reflects the university’s strategic integration of the SDGs across all core operations—from scientific research and social outreach to resource management and international partnerships. It marks an important first step in building a next-generation university aligned with the global priorities of human development.
