Relevance:

The Abad region plays a key role in the study of historical and cultural aspects of antiquity and the Middle Ages throughout the country. However, this region has still not received due attention in the framework of archaeological research, despite its potential to explore cultural transformations. The program is aimed at eliminating these gaps in knowledge about the cultural and historical heritage of the Abay region. It is planned to conduct systematic scientific research using modern analytical methods and technologies, which will help to better understand the historical significance of the region and its role in shaping the cultural landscape of Eurasia.


Target:

The Abay region plays a key role in the study of historical and cultural aspects of antiquity and the Middle Ages throughout the country. However, this region has not received due attention in archaeological research despite its potential for studying cultural transformations. The program aims to fill these gaps in knowledge about the cultural and historical heritage of the Abay region. It is planned to conduct systematic research using modern analytical methods and technologies, which will help to better understand the historical significance of the region and its role in shaping the cultural landscape of Eurasia.


Expectation:

The proposed program will provide the following results:

  • Materials from the Stone Age to the ethnographic time will be collected, digitized, and systematized. Work will be carried out on the search and documentation of monuments for a database of monuments of different times.
  • Paleolithic and Neolithic sites of settlement will be investigated, complexes of the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age will be studied.
  • The interrelationships between settlements, burial grounds and sanctuaries will be determined. The funeral rites and the architectural appearance of the archaeological complexes of different times have been reconstructed.
  • Conclusions will be given on the cultural affiliation and distribution of monuments of the Hunno-Sarmatian era and the Middle Ages.
  • ethnoarchaeological studies of monuments of the Kazakh time will be carried out; laboratory studies and interdisciplinary analyses of archaeological materials will be conducted.
  • According to the results of the program, at least 6 (six) articles and (or) reviews will be published in peer-reviewed scientific publications indexed in the Social Science Citation Index or Arts and Humanities Citation Index of the Web of Science database and (or) having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 25 (twenty-five); not less than 8 (eight) articles in journals recommended by the SHEQAC (Science and Higher Education Quality Assurance Committee).
  • 2 (two) monographs will be published, as well as 1 and 2 issues of the serial edition "Set of historical and cultural monuments of the Abay region" dedicated to the city of Semey and the Abay district.
  • 1 scientific catalog for the series "Archaeological Collection of Kazakhstan" based on the stock materials of the historical and local history museum of the Abay region will be published. 2 (two) copyright certificates registered at the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Kazakhstan; 1 scientific conference was organized and held. 2 round tables, 2 summer schools for schoolchildren and young scientists, interviews in the media.
