On April 9, 2025, a milestone event took place at Shakarim University — the opening of a new generation of laboratories. It wasn’t just a ceremony. It marked a transition. A shift. A signal. In Building No. 9, where footsteps of past generations once echoed, now march the footsteps of a new era — one that demands knowledge, courage, and technological maturity.
Expanding the Frontiers of Science
We live in a time when science can no longer be closed off, abstract, or confined to offices. Shakarim University is among the first institutions in the country not only to recognize this — but to act on it.
The future is being created here.
Shakarim University confidently breaks the stereotype of university science as something detached from reality. In an era of rapid transformation and national challenges — from food security to product quality and technological independence — the university turns laboratory equipment into strategic tools.
A New Scientific Landmark: The Laboratory of Physico-Chemical Analysis
The state-of-the-art Laboratory of Physico-Chemical Analysis of Food Products, named after Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor Kumarbek Zhunisbekovich Amirkhanov, is a vivid symbol of this new strategy. Established with public research funding, it is not just a scientific hub — it is a human-centered platform. Here, young researchers, master’s and PhD students are already solving real-world problems for Kazakhstan’s food industry.
The grand opening of this lab has become a landmark moment for the university and the entire regional scientific community. This is a place where knowledge gains form, ideas turn into results, and students grow into professionals.
Shakarim University Speaks the Language of Action
The university is not just talking — it’s building.
Alongside the lab, a pilot production facility for traditional Kazakh dairy product “kurt” and a meat processing lab were launched. Shakarim University responds to a national challenge — “What can a university give the country?”
The answer is clear:
– Qualified experts
– Real technologies
– Production models
– Human capital
– Impact on the economy
The labs and production units are not symbolic. They are working systems, contributing directly to innovation and economic progress.
A Living Legend of Engineering: Professor Amirkhanov and His School
The name Professor Kumarbek Zhunisbekovich Amirkhanov was echoed throughout the event. His scientific school became a vibrant system of knowledge transmission. He himself once was a student of the great scientist Elemess Toleuov, and today, seeing his own disciples — researchers, civil servants, vice-ministers, regional mayors, engineers, and experts — continuing his mission, is a testament to a life lived for science.
University Rector Duman Rymgaliuly Orynbekov, in his address, emphasized:
"I stand here not only as a rector, but also as a student of Professor Amirkhanov. It was he who once instilled in me the belief in precision of thought, in respect for labor, and in humanity as the core of all scientific pursuit.
He used to say: ‘True science exists where there is precision, respect for work, and care for people.’
This is our philosophy. This is our path.”
Student Science: Here. Now. Tangible.
In university halls and auditoriums, student research societies held a public exhibition of their work:
– Food Science
– Science_Club_Alliance
– Zhas Galym (Young Scientist)
– Student Bureau “Science & Engineering”
Young researchers presented results ranging from functional products using local plant materials to new emulsification methods in meat production, as well as hydroponic systems, 3D prototyping, and studies of bioactive compounds.
Saida Manenova, Aysha Kanatova, Shughyla Zhakupbekova, Alibi Muratbek, and Artem Yasnov — each of them is shaping the profile of Kazakhstan’s scientific future.
These are not outsourced consultants. These are our own students. Their intellect. Their initiative. Their experiments.
A University as a Catalyst for Regional Development
In his remarks, the rector emphasized the university’s model as a driver of regional development:
“We are the platform where students become engineers, ideas become projects, and research becomes production.
We are building an ecosystem. Shakarim University is becoming a model for others — how to connect fundamental knowledge with practice, how to take science beyond the lab and into the economy.
We make science visible, tangible, personal. Because science is not just research. It is destiny.
And that destiny can be built here. With us. Together.”
When Science Becomes Edible
To conclude the event, guests were invited to a tasting of products created as part of student and faculty research: kurt, semi-finished meat products, gluten-free pastries, and innovative food compositions — all developed and produced within the university.
It was more than a tasting — it was a manifesto. A delicious, persuasive, and sincere conversation about science.
Conclusion: The Future Has Already Begun
Shakarim University is ahead of its time.
This is no longer a claim — it is a fact.
The university is not only educating — it is producing.
Not only teaching — but transforming.
Not only preparing scientists — but building a scientific generation unafraid of reality, but working with it.
Science here is not a word. It is an action.
And that action is already reshaping the future.
Shakarim University.
The source.
The force.
The frontier.
