The grand opening of the scientific center "Modification of the surface of materials" took place at Shakarim University. The ceremony was attended by heads of universities, foreign and domestic scientists, representatives of Semey Medical University, Plasma Science LLP, Spectromart LLP, the Institute of Atomic Energy, the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Oncology, Semey Engineering and regional colleges, as well as the Semey branch of KazNIIPP. 

In the spring of this year, a memorandum of cooperation was signed with Plasma Science LLP and work began on the creation of a Scientific center "Modification of the surface of materials". The aim was to conduct interdisciplinary scientific research in the field of chemistry, physics, biology and in the technical direction. 

Chairman of the Board – Rector of Shakarim University Bauyrzhan Yerdembekov noted that this center unites our young scientists, physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists, chemists and engineers to implement scientific ideas within the walls of the university. 

Currently, the Scientific Center for Radioecological Research is carrying out four scientific projects through the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the performers of which are undergraduates, doctoral students and young university teachers. The structure of the center has 3 scientific laboratories, 12 items of equipment, 9 employees.

The laboratory of "Electrolyte-plasma processing of materials" was also presented to the guests.
"Here are 2 installations for electrolyte-plasma modification of metals. The main task of these installations is to obtain a protective layer of titanium oxide or aluminum oxide on the surface of metals," Rinat Kusainov notes.
