Information about Student Houses
1. Accommodation capacity — up to 1174 students across five student houses.
2. Living space per person — 6.6 sq. m
3. Rooms in the student houses are designed for 2 to 6 residents and are equipped with beds, wardrobes, poufs, bedside tables, and refrigerators.
4. Each student house is equipped with modern facilities, including a laundry room, ironing boards and an iron, a computer room, a lounge area, a kitchen, a sports room, showers, and a laundry area.
5. The student houses provide Wi-Fi internet access. Lounge areas and the computer room are equipped with plasma TVs with satellite and local TV channels. For residents’ safety, the dormitories are monitored and guarded 24/7.
6. Accommodation cost for the academic year is 140 000–160 000 KZT, paid in full upon check-in.
7. Check-in to the student houses is carried out in accordance with the «Regulations on Student Houses».
Procedure for accommodation in Student Houses
1. The selection committee allocates places in the university's Student Houses on the basis of applications submitted in paper form or via the electronic application portal, as well as documents confirming the status of the service recipient.
2. To obtain a place in a Student House, students must complete the designated application form. After completing the application form, they must register and submit the necessary documents within three (3) working days, in accordance with the deadlines specified in the registration procedure.
3. Student applications are registered and numbered in the logbook of each Student House.
4. Before moving into the Student House, the student undergoes an initial medical examination. Based on the results, the responsible medical worker makes a note in the student's application regarding admission to the Student House.
5. Applications and a complete set of documents are the responsibility of the commandant of the respective Student House. The documents are kept until the student completes the full course of study.
6. Admission to the Student House is based on the decision of the competition commission, the contract for the provision of accommodation services, the referral, and the order of a member of the Management Board — the Vice-Rector for Strategy and Social Development.
7. The competition commission allocates places in Student Houses taking into account the grounds and priority in the following order:
1) Persons with disabilities, children with disabilities since childhood, disabled children, orphans and children left without parental care, as well as students who have one or both parents with disabilities;
2) Young people left without parental care before reaching the age of 18, veterans who are equated with World War II veterans in terms of benefits, rural youth who have enrolled in programs for the development of the socio-economic potential of rural areas, as well as oralmans (қандастар);
3) Students of the project «Mәңгілік ел жастары – индустрияға!» («Серпін – 2050»);
4) First-year students who have the «Алтын белгі» mark, certificates of winners or prize-winners of presidential, international, and republican Olympiads and competitions, as well as graduates who have completed their education with honors (confirmed by an education document);
5) Students enrolled under the state educational order who have achieved high scores on the Unified National Test, comprehensive testing, entrance exams, or organizational testing;
6) If test results are equal, the student's financial situation is taken into account;
7) Senior students who have achieved high results in academic, scientific, and social activities;
8) Other university students.
8. Foreign students are provided with places in Student Houses in accordance with international and intergovernmental agreements.
9. Within two (2) working days after reviewing the applications, the competition commission shall decide on the allocation of places in the Student House.
10. The competition commission shall decide on the allocation of places to students who find themselves in difficult life situations (unexpected family, financial, or other circumstances), as well as on eviction from the Student House upon the recommendation of the dean or deputy dean.
11. The competition commission carries out a phased allocation of places:
11.1. At the beginning of the academic year (August) — for first-year students and transfer students;
11.2. During the academic year — as necessary, when there is a change in the number of residents or a need to accommodate re-enrolled students.
12. Based on the list of students eligible for accommodation, within 24 hours after the meeting, the student is issued a referral signed by the chair of the committee.
13. Students who own housing (apartment, house) in the city (settlement) are not provided with places in the Student House.
14. Places in Student Houses are provided for one academic year, except for the vacation period. During vacation periods, accommodation is permitted for certain categories of students (orphans, children left without parental care).
15. Upon eviction from the Student House, the student is obliged to vacate the living quarters and return the property received within 3 days from the date of the relevant order

Library
The library is the leading structural unit of the NJSC “Shakhim University.” It organizes and implements fast and high-quality library and information-bibliographic services for students, researchers, teachers, and other readers.
The library's collection is compiled in Kazakh, Russian, and foreign languages in accordance with the university's profile in various fields of education. The literature is grouped by fields of humanities and social and political sciences, fundamental sciences, economics, and law, as well as a rich collection of world literature in Russian, Kazakh, and foreign languages.
The library has six reading rooms in the university's academic buildings. Library readers have access to the global information network, the Internet, in the state language and Russian.
Library users have access to the full-text database of the Russian State Library, the electronic library of republican universities, and electronic resources.
As the library of one of the country's largest and leading universities, the Shakhim Library has its own mission, values, and vision.

Computer classrooms
For the convenience of students, 1150 computers have been installed at the university.
In addition, computer classrooms have 469 computers available for teaching and practical training.
Coworking spaces
There are several coworking areas on campus that are available to students, staff, and the teaching staff. Each space offers a quiet and comfortable environment, modern equipment, Wi-Fi, and small rooms for teamwork. Coworking spaces allow for the effective organization of the learning process and the implementation of creative initiatives.
Sports facilities
Classes are held at the university's sports complexes from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for students of Shakarim University, Shakarim Higher College, and Shakarim High School. In the evenings, the gyms are available to university staff and local residents.
Student sports competitions are organized by coaches.
Sports sections: volleyball, basketball, soccer, table tennis, chess, national sports, fitness, and swimming.

Medical centers
Medical centers (MC) are structural units of Shakiam University and provide medical and preventive care and emergency medical assistance to students and staff.
The MC consists of six medical centers: centers in dormitories №1, №2, and №4 (with isolation rooms), as well as stations in academic buildings №3 and №8 and sports complex №1.

Medical centers are serviced by the Semey Railway Hospital on a contractual basis with the provision of primary health care (PHC).
Main activities:
Provision of emergency medical and pre-medical care to students and staff, as well as outpatient care
Organization and implementation of preventive and anti-epidemic measures.
Organization and control of fluorographic examination and follow-up examination for tuberculosis for employees and students. There is a fluorography library for students and employees.
Conducting and organizing medical examinations of students when they move into dormitories and of the entire contingent.
Conducting medical procedures in the medical centers of the educational buildings and ensuring timely consultations and medical care for students in primary health care facilities.
Conducting activities on hygiene education for students, promoting healthy lifestyles and rational nutrition, as well as monthly lectures and discussions by doctors and nurses from medical centers on the prevention of acute respiratory viral infections, influenza, and other infectious diseases according to plan.
Monitoring of patients under dispensary care, disabled persons, and pregnant female students.
Conducting explanatory work among students and employees on the digitization of the healthcare system and compulsory health insurance.
MP employees are on duty during the Unified National Test, the Comprehensive Test, and all cultural and sporting events held at the university.
During the admissions period, the medical records of applicants are monitored.
Canteens
There are several canteens in the university's academic buildings, providing comfortable and affordable meals for students and staff. Each canteen is equipped in accordance with modern requirements, complies with sanitary standards, and offers a varied and high-quality menu. The assortment includes hot dishes, side dishes, salads, drinks, pastries, sweets, as well as daily and popular items.
The main goal of the cafeterias is to create conditions for a full and comfortable break in the learning process, as well as to provide daily meals for students and university staff.

Social assistance
Priority is to be given to those persons:
- persons with disabilities and persons with disabilities from childhood, orphans and children deprived of parental care, persons with one or both parents with disabilities;
- young people without parental care until their majority, rural youth population, who came under the educational programs defining social and economic development of the village, as well as nationals who are not citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- families with many children and low-income families;
- «Mәңгілік ел жастары – индустрияға!» («Серпін – 2050»);
- owners of «Алтын белгі», winners of international and republican sport and creative competitions.
Orphaned students and students left without parental care, students who lost their parents (or were left without parental care) before reaching the age of majority, as well as students with disabilities of groups I, II, and III, including those with disabilities since childhood, are eligible for the following support measures from the university for the purpose of providing social support:
1. Benefits for living in Student Houses. The above categories of students are granted a 100% discount (full exemption from payment) for accommodation in university Student Houses for the entire academic year.
2. Discounts on educational services. A 100% discount is granted on educational services (full exemption from tuition fees).
3. Access to university infrastructure. The following categories of students are provided with free access to:
- the university library;
- sports halls (football hall, volleyball and basketball halls, tennis tables, pool);
- the gym;
- the university's computer classrooms;
- reading rooms and other educational resources of the university.
4. Assignment of social support payments:
- one-time financial assistance in difficult life situations (victims of natural disasters or fires; persons whose viability has been impaired due to circumstances);
- those who have lost their parents/sole breadwinner (guardian).
5. Social, psychological, and educational support. The university provides the following within its capabilities:
- support from a curator and assistance in adapting to the educational process and life in the Student Houses;
- free consultations with a psychologist, social pedagogue, and, if necessary, a university lawyer;
- information about rights, benefits, and social support measures.
6. Organizational and informational support. The following categories of students may be provided with:
- assistance in preparing applications and collecting documents for obtaining state benefits and privileges;
- consulting on issues related to obtaining social support measures from state agencies and funds;
- information about opportunities to participate in projects, programs, educational and social initiatives aimed at students from privileged categories.
