Relevance

The objective of the project is to study lameness in broiler chickens in three regions of Kazakhstan: Akmolinsk, Abay, and Almaty regions. Lameness in broilers is one of the most common and economically significant problems in poultry farming, leading to decreased productivity, poor bird health, and significant economic losses for farmers. The main goal of the project is to identify the factors contributing to lameness and to identify bacterial pathogens causing this condition.

The problem addressed in the study is the lack of information about the prevalence of lameness on broiler farms in Kazakhstan and its bacterial etiology. Currently, the absence of data on the causes of lameness and the factors affecting its development complicates the development of effective measures to reduce morbidity and improve production indicators. Studying the bacterial pathogens associated with lameness is also crucial, as timely identification of infectious agents will enable the development of targeted preventive and therapeutic measures.

Goal

The goal is presented briefly and specifically, should align with the project topic, be achievable, and reflect the nature of the solution expected from the project’s implementation. The content of the goal should address the main question the research intends to solve.

The project aims to study the prevalence of lameness in broiler chicks in the Akmolinsk, Abay, and Almaty regions, identify bacterial pathogens causing this condition, and evaluate treatment options. The research will analyze housing conditions, feeding practices, and other factors influencing the development of lameness. The project focuses on developing recommendations for improved prevention and treatment, helping to reduce morbidity, enhance bird health, and increase productivity in poultry farming. The research results will contribute to optimizing health management practices for broilers and improving the economic efficiency of poultry enterprises.

Expected Result

As part of the project, the following publications are planned:

At least 2 (two) articles and/or reviews in peer-reviewed scientific journals related to the project's field of research, indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded database of Web of Science and/or with a CiteScore percentile of at least 65 (sixty-five) in the Scopus database.

At least 2 (two) articles or reviews in peer-reviewed international or domestic journals recommended from Lists 1 and 2 of the Committee for Quality Assurance in the Sphere of Education and Science (KOKNVO).
