As the snow begins to melt after six long months and spring emerges, the Kazakh land celebrates «Körisu» or «Amal Holiday». According to the Eastern calendar, when equinox occurs and Amal begins, the Aries constellation appears. The word “Aman” comes from the Persian word "Hamal", and since the month of March is called “Hamal Ay” in Persian, the holiday became known as “Amal Holiday”.
Celebrated from March 14, Körisu is a national holiday rich in traditions. On this day, relatives and friends reunite after a long time apart, embrace, forgive past grievances, and strengthen bonds of friendship, unity, and brotherhood. Amal Holiday is not just a festival of joy but also a time of renewal, letting go of the past, and welcoming the future with a pure heart.
To celebrate Körisu Day, the Schools of Food Engineering, Physics, and Chemistry organized an event, making a significant contribution to the promotion of national traditions. Professors and students, eagerly awaiting Amal Holiday, decorated a traditional yurt, set a festive table with national dishes, warmly welcomed guests, and greeted them with heartfelt embraces. Students performed a theatrical play explaining the meaning of the holiday, sang songs, danced, and played traditional Kazakh music (küy).
The Vice-Rector for Strategy and Social Development, Askar Kasymov, congratulated everyone on Amal Holiday and shared his warm wishes, while elders gave their blessings to the younger generation.
