Student Theater Opens New Season

The «Қарагөз» student-youth theater of Shakarim University opened its new season with the famous drama «Қарагөз» by Mukhtar Auezov. This is a clear demonstration of the theater troupe’s respect for art and their high artistic standards.

The performances of the student actors were highly appreciated by participants of an international seminar on the development of domestic theater arts, held at the university.

The theater’s repertoire includes a range of modern and traditional plays such as «Мазасыз маусым», «Шәкәрім әлемі», «Ғашықтар хикаясы», «Тағдыр ма әлде», «Миллион», «Мұңлы муза», and «Тағдырымның есімі». The theater is directed by Erkebulan Nugymanov, an actor of the youth theater «Dariğa-ai».

Currently, the theater includes more than 50 young talents honing their acting skills. In October, first-year students will join them, expanding the theater’s creative energy and paving the way for new names on stage.

“This troupe, with a history spanning 65 years, was originally founded under the name ‘Еңлікгүл’. The initial cast included university professor Arap Espenetov and renowned educator Kanypa Bitibaeva. The People's Artist Abilkassym Zhanbyrbaev played a significant role in the theater’s formation, conducting master classes for young actors and guiding their professional development,” said Yergali Bektenov, head of the university’s Student Philharmonic.

In the upcoming season, the troupe plans to stage works by prominent writers Oralhan Bokey and Mukhtar Magauin. This artistic pursuit marks an important step in the spiritual growth of the theater.
